Died: August, 1993
1966 Yearbook: June Carter is a member of Peace Corps in Peru-Rural Community Development. Stationed in Ichu, Peru. I live directly on the shores of Lake Titicaca in Peru, in a beautiful little town built on a mountainside overlooking pampa of Quinva and potatoes now green and growing. Full of giggling kids and Aynana speaking ladies, and cows, pigs and llamas-all who stare at me through front doors everyday. I teach and work with crafts.
1991 Yearbook: June married David A. Henshaw, college instructor, and is employed as a graphic artist with the U.S. Army, Fort Devens, MA. They have three children; Jeanette, age 23, teaches special needs children in Va.; Margaret, age 20, junior at UNL majoring in archeology; and Christopher, age 18, who graduated from H.S. in ?91 and plans to study theater, Univ. of MA. June attended KS Univ., went to Denver with a degree in Commercial Art and worked as an advertising artist for 2 years. Returning to Lincoln, she studied at UNL for a teaching certification; then joined the Peace Corps, serving in Peru 1965-66, where she met her husband. Their married life has taken them to upstate New York, Frankfurt (Germany) in the Army, Manchester (England) where he did graduate work, and Newport News, Virginia, Baumholder (Germany) and now Massachusetts. She started doing theater sets and related artwork while in Frankfurt and has won several awards for set design. Their children were born in Frankfurt, Lincoln (a pause on the way to graduate school) and Newport News. While in Baumholder, June started a career with Army Training Aids: had previously done free-lance art work, including the Christmas cards for the Governor of NE in 1967, and worked on catalogues and other art for Avon Family Fashions, while in VA. She has also received several awards for art work and outstanding job performance with the Army. She shares, However, my main rewards are the 3 children, the 9 years of life and travel in Europe, and lots of memories. June?s mother and brother Gene (class of ?55) live in Omaha, which is also home for her other brother, Don. Her closest ties to Lincoln are with their daughter Margaret at UNL. She has no immediate plans for retirement. Fort Devens is slated to be closed but her office may remain. She would like to return to the NE vicinity at some point, but not necessarily permanently.
