Patty Wood
Widow. Married 40 years to Thomas Alvin Kubes. He died 12/7/97 of Lymphoma. Tom was a graduate of Crete High School.
Children: Nancy Kay (Kubes) Schaub, 47, Houston, Texas, Daryl Dean Kubes, 46, Crete, Nebraska, Kristine Lynne (Kubes) Bergheis, 41, Lincoln, Nebraska, Barbara Deanne (Kubes) Bodfield, 36, Crete, Nebraska. Nine Grandchildren. Two Great grandchildren
WORK: First jobs, Gold's Department Store and Tillman's Cafe. Daycare at home, also daycare at church. We had a farm in Crete, also a True Value Hardware store. Owned "Motel Taney" in Branson, Missouri for 8 years, sold it in 1980,?and back to Lincoln. Tom was ill for 5 years with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.
Continue to work: Baby-sitting for grandkids, and house cleaning for a couple of special ladies. I live in Crete and my disabled son, Daryl, lives with me. Don't plan to retire yet.
INTERESTS: Collect a few dolls. Built a new home a year after Tom died. Like to drive at home but not in big cities or on highways. I belong to the Crete Methodist Church and Circle Club. I enjoy watching my grandchildren participate in a variety of sports.
Significant Events: In my Life - Lost my Dad and husband. In the world - Another war is so sad.
CHANGES: Put on a few pounds since high school, but get on my diet and lose the pounds. 9/11 affected all of us. Seat belts, gasoline prices.
MISSES: I miss the 50s music and eating places like the Yum Yum Hut, Brick's, Ken Eddy's, Capitol Beach, good movies, Riding around town on your date. I even rode with Tom on his Harley Davidson.
Musings: Went to Hawaii with Tom in 1976. Got seasick.
My 89 year old Mom and I do a lot of things together. She lives in Lincoln and is an active Lincoln High 1935 graduate.
Two of my brothers spent a year in Vietnam and all four of my brothers graduated from Lincoln High School.
