Dagmara Vallens (Aivars' sister) writes: Aivars died of a heart attack while on a trip to Laos. He did not have any children, leaving only his two sisters, nephew, and many relatives in Latvia, Australia, and the United States. Aivars worked with computers for Unisys. After an early retirement, Aivars returned to live in Latvia. He enjoyed traveling, having visited Egypt, China, and many European countries. He was an avid reader. After Aivars graduated from Lincoln High in 1956, he attended the University of Nebraska, majoring in Physics. He served 6-1/2 years in the Nebraska Air National Guard as a Weapons Mechanic and for 3 years in the US Army as a Microwave Radio Repairman (stationed in Germany). Aivars was born in Riga, Latvia, but with his family had to leave his home in 1944, due to the War. He arrived in the US and Lincoln, Nebraska in November, 1950.
