Marleen Meinke

Born: August 10, 1938
Died: September 14, 1970
1966 Yearbook: Marleen is an Airline Hostess, Trans World Airlines. Attended UNL. Has seen our USA from coast to coast, and become quite well acquainted with the major European cities. Obituary Notice Lincoln Journal Star Outstate: Marleen Joan, 32, South Pasadena, CA. Born Crete. Formerly of Lincoln and Crete. TWA stewardess, receptionist 6 years. Blanche Lawson Riordan writes: "She used to stay with me on her "overnights" when she flew into SFO. We always had a wonderful time. She had convinced me that I could "fly" and be a hygienist on my off hours, and I considered it, but didn't want to leave SFO for training. (And, I had a wonderful position at that time). Marlene had many fun adventures, eg: skiing in Switzerland on her transatlantic flights, a safari in Africa with true campouts on the range. I have a letter somewhere, about her adventures on her safari in Africa, which I have kept, because everything she related was so exciting. She became a supervisor, based in NYC and flew flights to review hostess' performances on Transcontinental flights. She didn't get to SFO anymore and I had moved to New Hampshire. We had planned she would come up to visit, but she never got there. The last I heard, she didn't show for an assignment and they found her in her apartment- dead." Marleen's death certificate notes that she had been a Deputy Sheriff for one month.
