WORK: I worked for Addressograph-Multigraph Corp. in many capacities in Lincoln, Nebraska, Spokane, Washington, and in Washington, DC. I prepared business proposals, was office manager, in charge of personnel and benefits, and other various duties. Then I worked for Washington Post newspaper for 30 years in Washington, DC in advertising sales doing real estate advertising. I retired from there in 2000. I currently work at a local grocery store that is frequented mostly by the other retirees that are either year-round or summer residents.
FUN: Needle point, crossword and Sudoku puzzles, boating and fishing. I also enjoy traveling by vehicle where I can see our country and have spent the last two summers on the road.
I was director and president of the Dalelites Drum and Baton Corp. that had children from 4 years to 18 years of age. We traveled the East coast and were in competitions where we very often took first place. The children that were in the corp., to this day, remember the fun we had and their parents were very supportive of our efforts. I also was a den mother for 12 cub scouts for 2 years.
Signifigant World Event: I worked at the Washington Post during the Watergate scandal and during the filming of "All the President's Men," the movie about Watergate which was actually filmed in the Washington Post building and also had scenes at the Kennedy center for which we employees were used as extras. It was interesting.
REFLECTIONS:in the 50's seemed uncomplicated I guess because of being young but I was also shy. I guess I have changed because I am now aware of what's going on around me and am friends with the County Commissioner for our local area here in St. Mary's County, Maryland who keeps me well informed of what's going on in the community, and I participate in community affairs. Then too, I have gotten older, gained some weight, still have my hair, no longer wear glasses due to cataract implants, and am facing (dreading) a knee replacement.
My only philosophy is to enjoy life because the time we have is limited and is so precious.
I'm sorry but I have not kept up with any of my classmates since between working, moving, and having children it seemed I was always so busy. I am hoping to be able to attend the reunion.
